Rules

Last updated 26 October 2026

YouGather is a private place for the groups you already belong to. Groups are yours, and we do not read them. These rules exist for the few cases where someone gets hurt, cheated, or the law is broken, and to say what the free plan is for. They are part of the terms of service.

Community rules

What you share in a group is between you and the people in it. We draw the line at harm. On YouGather you may not:

Post sexual content. No pornography or sexually explicit images or video. Anything sexualising a child is reported to the authorities and the account is closed at once, with no appeal.

Cheat people. No scams, phishing, fake fundraising, pyramid or "investment" schemes, or selling things you do not have. No pretending to be someone else or an organisation you do not represent.

Attack people for who they are. No content that attacks or dehumanises people for their ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or similar.

Threaten or harass. No threats, intimidation, bullying, or encouraging violence against anyone, inside or outside the group. No content that supports terrorism or violent extremism.

Expose someone's private life. No sharing of other people's addresses, documents, messages, intimate images or other private information without their consent. Only post photos and videos of other people when they are fine with it, especially children.

Break the law. No illegal goods or services, and no content you do not have the right to share, such as copyrighted material that is not yours.

Spam or abuse the service. No bulk unsolicited invitations, no bots, no scraping, no trying to break into accounts or disrupt the service, and no selling or renting access to groups.

Group admins keep their own groups within these rules and can remove members and posts. A group created for a prohibited purpose can be closed as a whole.

Fair use of the free plan

The free plan is for sharing with your groups. It is not a backup drive, a file-transfer service or a hosting platform. The limits:

Posts can hold up to 10 photos (30 MB each) or one video of 30 seconds (60 MB).

Everyone gets 10 GB of storage for their photos and videos across all their groups, counting originals. When you get close to it, we tell you. At 10 GB you can still post text, comment and react, but new photos and videos wait until you free space or move to a paid plan. We never delete what you already shared because of this limit.

A person can create up to 25 groups and a group can hold up to 500 members. Write to hello@yougather.app if your club or school needs more; the answer is usually yes.

We apply automatic limits on how fast you can post, comment, invite and create groups. Normal use never reaches them.

Accounts not signed into for two years may be deleted. We email you twice first, with a link to download everything.

Uploading content you do not look at or share, or using scripts to upload or download in bulk, is outside the free plan and we may ask you to stop or move to a paid plan.

Paid plans with more storage and longer video will be announced before they exist; nothing paid will make the free plan worse.

How we enforce this

We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive users. In practice:

We act on reports. Every post has a Report button for the people who can see it. Anyone, member or not, can write to hello@yougather.app, for example about a public link or an invite page. We review every report within 24 hours and remove the content first when in doubt.

You can block people. Block someone from their page and you no longer see anything they post, and they no longer see your page. They are not told. Group admins can also remove them from the group.

We do not read private groups. We look at content only when it is reported, when it is public, or when the law requires it.

Steps. Depending on how serious it is: we remove the content, we warn you, we suspend the account for a while, or we close it. Sexual content involving minors, scams and threats of violence close the account at the first instance.

We tell you. When we remove something or act against your account, we email you what we removed, which rule applied and how to appeal, unless the law or an ongoing investigation prevents it.

Appeal. Reply to that email within 14 days and a person reads it again. If we were wrong, we restore what we removed.

Your content stays yours. A closed account still gets the usual export, except for content that is itself illegal.

Authorities. We hand over content or account data only when the law requires it, and we report material involving the sexual abuse of children to the relevant authorities ourselves.
